A Survey Conducted by Monkey Sports with 40 children in seven different communities in Raigarh, Chhattisgarh shows that children face neglect, violence and abuse at home. It leads to stress, children developing trust issues, and engaging in anti-social behaviour even impacting their academic performance and school attendance.
Theory of change
To solve this problem, we have created a Sangwari Program.
Sangwari is a Chattisgarhi word which means friend. Through this program, we train community youth to become role models in children’s lives. After the training, the community youth start conducting regular Social Emotional Learning based sports-based sports programs for children to help them deal with stressful situations.
Research indicates that the SEL program can also improve children’s academic performance by up to 11 %.
Through our pilot project of Sangwari last year, we have reached out to 70 + children in the previous year and conducted over 150 social-emotional learning-based sports sessions and 52 academic sessions for children. Seven community youths conducted the sessions in seven different communities.
